On September 20th, around 30 Keeping Hope Alive volunteers gathered at Sembawang Crescent at 8am.

The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month - traditionally a time for reunion and togetherness. Families gather, mooncakes are shared as a symbol of completeness. For those living alone, this time of year can feel particularly quiet.

We brought mooncakes, rice, and ointments and muscle rubs that elderly residents are always glad to receive. We also came with nasi lemak and halal mooncakes for our Muslim friends.

Going floor by floor, we checked in on residents and asked what they needed. The ointments were a small thing, but the elderly lit up over them.
