Keeping Hope Alive delivering CNY cheer to Chin Swee Road
04 Feb 2024

“Good morning! We're volunteers. Do you cook at home?”

On the 4th of February, a typical Sunday morning unfolded at Chin Swee Road, or more aptly, a typical KHA Sunday morning. Our founder, Fion, addressed all volunteers, both veterans and newcomers, with her voice loud and clear, outlining our mission for the day.

We were joined by sponsors and volunteers from MissShopper Boutique and 4Play. Each KHA volunteer paired up with a partner from these groups for our door-knocking activity that day.

What was our goal? To engage with residents in the Chin Swee, Jalan Kukoh, and York Hill neighborhoods, wishing them a joyful Lunar New Year and offering them 'gold' – golden bags filled with New Year goodies courtesy of our group and rice from our sponsors.

There was much to do that day, including a cleanup at a resident’s home, all while being followed by a television crew from Channel News Asia.

While some of us undertook our usual house cleaning in a hoarder’s home, others went door to door, open-hearted and fully alert, using all our senses to assess the residents' needs.

Then, as volunteers, it was our job to determine what we could do to help.
