Another rewarding day of service with Keeping Hope Alive! Our volunteers split into teams to support rental flat residents at Pipit Road in different ways.
The outreach team, including volunteers from 10 years old and up, went door-to-door asking residents what they needed while providing rice for those who cook at home. Even after covering 2 blocks, the kids stayed energized and happy to help.
The cleaning crew tackled a challenging situation - a flat battling a bedbug infestation.
Some of our volunteers were dressed in full PPE, to protect themselves from the bugs, while the rest of us helped with moving the furniture, and clearing a lot of the old belongings that were unhygienic.
Thanks to a sponsor providing fumigation services, we were able to clear the home. Another sponsor donated painting services, allowing us to give the two gentleman staying in the flat a freshly painted living space. We had a sponsor donate beautiful antique solid wood furniture pieces with intricate designs reminiscent of Raffles Hotel. We were told some of these pieces were over a century old! The vintage keys and locks looked plucked from a Sherlock Holmes novel!
With the home fumigated, painted and reorganized with new donated basics, we felt immense fulfillment setting up a clean living environment for the residents. As our founder Fion always reminds us, the gift is in the opportunity to serve others. Grateful for another meaningful day!
